Composite active drag control in turbulent channel flows

چکیده
A composite drag control (CDC) combining the opposition (OC) and spanwise opposed wall-jet forcing (SOJF) methods is investigated. maximum reduction of about 33% obtained for CDC -- much higher than that produced by either individual method (namely, 19% SOJF 23% OC). Flow analysis shows can take advantage both OC to better suppress producing near-wall turbulent structures --vortices streaks. Our results suggest prospects employing a strategy effective skin friction reduction, particularly at very high Reynolds numbers.

Suboptimal control of turbulent channel flow for drag reduction
Two simple feedback control laws for drag reduction are derived by applying a suboptimal control theory to a turbulent channel flow. These new feedback control laws require pressure or shear-stress information only at the wall, and when applied to a turbulent channel flow at Reτ = 110, they result in 16–22% reduction in the skin-friction drag. More practical control laws requiring only the loca...

Feedback control equations are developed and tested using optimal control theory for two diierent ow control problems. In the rst, wall-normal blowing and suction distributions are computed to eeciently reduce drag. The technique used to compute the control is the minimization of a \cost functional" which is constructed to represent some balance of the drag integrated over the walls and the net...
متن کاملControl of Turbulent Flows
It is useful for many industrial applications to be able to control turbulence in uid ows, either to reduce it or, in some cases, to increase it. Active or passive control procedures are of interest. The problems that we face here are considerable and encompass those related to the control of complex nonlinear systems and those related to the direct numerical simulation of turbulent ows. Our ai...
